The new online MSc in Carbon Management programme is made up of three components:
Postgraduate Certificate in Climate Change Management
This 60-credit programme is comprised of three 20-credit core courses that move from the science of climate change and its impacts, through the key adaptation and mitigation solutions, to examination of the business response to climate change, and the risks and opportunities it represents. The courses draw on expert input from some of the world's leading authorities on the subject, including lead authors from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), government advisors and industry specialists. The three core courses on this programme are:
- Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation
- Climate Change Mitigation
- Climate Change and Corporate Responsibility

Postgraduate Certificate in Carbon Innovation
This 60-credit programme is comprised of three 20-credit core courses that move from the economics of climate change, to how to calculate, report and audit the impact of climate change through to the engineering, economic, social and political issues and challenges of various energy systems. The courses draw on expert input from some of the world's leading authorities on the subject, including lead authors from the government advisors and industry specialists. The three core courses on this programme are:
- Carbon Economics
- Climate Change Measurement
- Energy and Climate
Final Year - Applied Carbon Methods
This 60-credit module comprises one 20-credit course and a 40-credit dissertation project. It is a pre-requisite that students will have successfully completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Climate Change Management the Postgraduate Certificate in Carbon Innovation prior to starting this module.
Student’s who successfully complete either of the first two 60-credit components can exit with a Postgraduate Certificate. On successful completion of both of the first two 60-credit components students are eligible to graduate with a Postgraduate Diploma in Carbon Management. For progression to a full MSc in Carbon Management students must successfully complete all three Postgraduate Certificates listed above.
Each of the Postgraduate Certificates are one year courses, with one course per semester. The full MSc is completed over a 36-month period starting in September each year (24-month for Diploma). From September 2016 a 24-month option of the MSc will be available (12-month for Diploma) where the two taught Postgraduate Certificates are taken in the same year.
